Accidental death insurance differs from standard life insurance in a few different ways:

1. Accidental death insurance offers limited coverage for death resulting only from accidents, whereas, standard life insurance covers death resulting from natural causes.

2. Accidental death costs a lot less than standard life insurance because of the limited coverage for death by accident only.

Your life insurance pays the death benefit if you (the insured person) pass away due to natural causes or accidental death.

If you want the life insurance policy to pay out double the death benefit in case of accidental death and your policy does not do that as a feature of the policy, you may be able to purchase an accidental death rider.
